Easter Day 3 - Catch crabs

Easter Day 4 - Catch chocolate eggs

Remi is obsessed with Dinosaurs

Alexis did not get a chance to do "thorough" things due to the constant distractions of Remi, lack of food, resorting to books.

The Truth about Remi and children like her

Remi is a child that is born with inherited gut issue.

I knew her health wasn't right from the moment she came home.

She had jaundice. Her nose is congested every night, we have to suck the snot out, otherwise she won't be able to sleep. Her sinus issue is an ongoing issue, some days better than others, but seem to always be constant.

What I did not know is, mucus build up, is not just a localised issue. But there is a bigger problem behind with her body's immune system.

Upon starting solid, she has constipation issue. Bad constipation issue. Bleed in her bum hole. Of course I did everything I could at the time. Changing her diet. More fibre. More water. Less dairy, etc. It was confusing puzzle and when it finally subsides 6 months later, I don't even know what made it better.

She always scratches, even from 6 months old. As she was young, we could distract her out from it, or hold her hands and don't let her do too much of it.

From infancy, not sure when, Remi would probably always have citrobacter pathogen, inherited from me. At 12 months onwards, I am sure the citrobacter pathogen manifested. Combined with stress, lack of proper sleep, constipation, her whole system is out of balance, the citrobacter pathogen (along with others) multiplies more and more. Remi stresses a lot as a toddler, whilst it could be classed as 'normal toddler behaviour' but I am 100% certain her out-of-whack immune system is causing inflammation in her brain, nervous system and disrupted neurotransmitter as well.

Remi's anxiety is to the roof, even since infant. I, as the mother, is giving my all, day and night around the clock to provide emotional comfort and safety for her. However a lot of resentment and stresses in the mother, sometimes exploded outwards as outburst to the whole family.

At around 1.5 year old, Remi got hit by covid-19. It produces rashes in her skin.

At 23 months old, she got hit by HFM (hand foot mouth) disease except its not the typical symptoms., it hit the skin. Hundreds of dots breakout in her skin.

At 24 months old, even after HFM virus is treated, her eczema is at the worst.

Skin is the largest organ in your body. It is the biggest indicator that your immune system is out of balance. Eczema is inflammation on the skin.

Dermatologist prescribed the strongest steroid to a toddler. We applied it for a few weeks and her skin cleared up. Dermatologist suggest to continually keep up with using steroid until older age, where she can access an eczema injection from 12 years old onwards. Upon researching, the injection (dupixent) is just to 'shut up' specific T communication cell, not to flare up the eczema, I was extremely disappointed that the best solution that can be offered by western medical world is just a band-aid treatment.

I know for sure, there is an underlying gut issue.

From Nov 2023, I was determined to make radical change to her diet but I am not sure where to start. There has to be something else. Booked appointments with naturopaths. Introduced to the concepts of "salicylates". Was given some kind of solution, but not too satisfied as it feels a bit like a guessing game. Then double down in treatment in Feb-2024, meeting a naturopath in Carindale who seem to be the best in kinesiology practice.

At the age of 2, this kinesiologist argues that Remi's gut system does NOT agree to: Sugars, Amines, Glutamates / MSG, Egg, Milk/Dairy, Gluten, Corn, Yeast, Soy, Peanuts, Shellfish, Nuts, Flavour enhancers, Citrus and Goat.

I fell to my knees. What can I feed my child then?!  Kinesiologist convinced that she can 'heal' remi by keeping her nervous system calm towards these foods. I wasn't convinced entirely but I had no choice.  but to go with the treatment, which was very arduous and painful (Feb-24 to Jun-24 for about $1000).

Eliminating all of those food are impossible. It may be possible but it will kill Remi's desire in food.  She basically can only eat plain (slightly salted) meat, and plain veggies. And that is it. Psychologically it would be too damaging to her, and to me. I was still trying to work hard in introducing new safe food to Remi so she can gradually eliminate those, but I felt in complete despair on how difficult this whole thing is.

In Jun-24, I decided to try another way, a complete gut microbiome test that cost $500 all up. And I also discovered a new guidance by Karen Fischer the Eczema diet. Ordered 3 books from Karen and devoured it.

I learnt more on how Remi's gut system works, how all the food I am giving her, the sleep, the stress, her daily life is affecting her gut, skin, brain and nervous system. The puzzle pieces start to come together and I realised that EVERYTHING IS INTERCONNECTED.

At the age of 3, I found the right naturopath for Remi. She is experienced in dealing with the gut microbiome test. Turns out her citrobacter reading was found to be 992.64. Out of normal range of 0-5.

It honestly explains everything.

Herbal liquid is prescribed for the next 12 months to eradicate this citrobacter phatogen. Naturopath also gives supplement "Marshmallow powder" to help with balancing her neurotransmitter.

Now we are 2 months into the herbal liquid. There has been windows (a couple of days) where she is completely itch-free on her hands, or itch-free on her feet, or itch-free on her knees. I could not believe it. But the itchiness comes back. They all take turns. We still have to prescribe steroid every 10 days, aim is to reduce the frequency.

Her sleeping has improved significantly. Some days better than others. But she sleeps through the night a lot more now. When she sleeps very well,  her skin improves significantly.

The latest blood test shown significant igE reading (allergy level) being 791 (normal is 0-60), cannot explain exactly what made it out of whack, but it confirms that the journey is not over. Theres still far to go. But at least we have a parameter to work with.

Being a threenager, Remi is getting pickier with her food. It is harder to get veggies into her system.

I hated not being in control of things, I hated the ambiguity, guessing game nature of this mysterious gut work that we do for Remi. IN 2024, a lot of things are still LIMITED. I cannot wait in twenty years time for gut work research to improve in terms of its markers, ability to pinpoint issues, so that I don't have to feel so much in the dark.

But this is so far, as best, as we can get, I think.

The journey still feels VERY long, but I am telling myself to remind hopeful.

My biggest problem currently

Let me blow up on this topic

WHY DOES EVERYTHING TASTY HAS TO BE DAIRY

Cheese

Butter

Milk

Yoghurt

IT HAS TO BE SWEET

Chocolate

IT HAS TO BE BURNT, CRISPY, CRUNCHY

Chips

Fried chicken

IT HAS TO BE TOMATO

Tomato tasty

Anything with  dairy, sugar, amine, etc.

LIFE IS SOOOOOO UNFAIR

The biggest part of parenthood is diving down to childhood trauma involutarily

We as parents have the obligation to really look after our bodies and our minds. To Really do that

Because that is the only way we can stand above the childhood trauma that we had, flashing before our very eyes, in that instantaneous moment, taking our rational mind over, and exert past trauma and lashing towards our children.

When we felt like we are not being heard.

When we felt like we are not being listened to.

When we felt like we are not in control over things.

I have a tendency to just - suppress suppress suppress (don't hold my boundary strong enough, don't use my words well enough to communicate the strong stance of not wanting to go there), then all of a sudden explode, yelling and shouting.

That is not the kids problem.  That is my problem for not being able to express my needs better.

And that is utmost work in progress.

It is not fair for our children, to be trembling crying on the floor

It will not work for our children to be treated like that, they will not learn anything

Whilst I know avoidance is not always the best, repair is better, but I am still learning how to do that repair as well, which is something I am lacking as well

And now I am dealing with the guilt and I am crying myself for letting that happen.

I did manage to stop myself that moment, decide to forego that probiotics & teeth brushing, rather than choking Remi on the probiotics in a syringe in the car as she swings on the seatbelt as she clearly said she does not want it.

I managed to stop myself from doing that action, which I know will scar Remi from any syringes going forward.

I did try to pace myself, take deep breath as much as I can, letting off steam bit by bit in least damaging way for the kids.

I feel like crying myself, from everything, most importantly from my own behaviour, under-enforcing boundary and over-reacting from getting suppressed explosion.

Then I must remember that I was hurt too, in the past.

That was my old way of coping and I see it better

I need to stop the vicious cycle and be better.

I need to remember to be kind to myself too.

To the past, hurt, younger version of myself.

The crying turns from feeling regretful to feel sorry for myself.

Licking my own wounds.

I can only promise to my daughters, to my husband and to me, that I will take care of myself better, so I can control my emotion better in the future.

Parenting is hard :(

Working with your family members

 As children are getting bigger

we are learning to work with each other

Alexis is the most similar to me with her way of thinking

Its just that  she is very fast, and I am very fast, and if we both too fast, in a slightly different direction, train crash.

Jack is the most opposite to me

They are also adapting to me

Do I want the experience to be pleasant? then I need to balance my mouth & my mind

It is also about 'making the experience' pleasant for Remi, Jack

so it is about angle-ing it so that they feel like they are part of the journey too

it takes time, of course

I'm sure we get better as we learn more :)

I always can work with my mom, but I never really work with my dad, until I was 32 years old, working on management rights together. It was a pleasure to work with him, I admire his brain a lot.

Frustration Frustration Frustration Frustration Frustration Frustration

 HEre i am screaming

SCREAMING

How hard does things have to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has a high risk to

* undo everything i have done

I have to do it tactfully

But I am so nervous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

-------------------------

I have increased breakfast options for my kids

My vision for the kids

 Alexis (6 years old)

Something to do with people, for sure
She will understand the psychology of people,  groups,  community
Her learning about famous people, history, cultures, war, would help her understand about the psychology of society

Remi (2 years old)

Although it is still a bit too early to tell. She has a less 'people pleasing' tendency than Alexis.  She is less swayable by things.  She has a lot of anger and  fight for justice.  She has particularly strong conviction about things.

My view about children

I rather then talking about the skills they are practicing, the imagination they are thinking, the things they are creating / building, the things they are doing to improve the life of themselves or others, the things that they learnt about the world

Parents are getting over their guilt by justifying themselves by being immersed in screen junk food and peer play with no adults whatsoever - is the way life is nowadays & it’s acceptable

When their kids are disconnected & defiant, parents resort to punishment, bribing to buy more materials, rewarding good behaviour by screen time, whilst the reason why they are disconnected in the first place is - because they just want - genuine deep connection - who their parents can provide more selflessly than their peers. This is a fact. Kids need the following before they can learn to have a trusted boyfriend or partner

emotional regulation

It is no wonder why anxiety depression and many mental health conditions are worst than ever in this society

Short term (one day) harmless, long term it’s unhealthy esp for young kids who don’t know any better.

Two days of being in this acceptable culture is enough to open Alexis’s lid.  Now she also sees how the most laidback parenting is. She sees other kids get what she doesn’t get. Comparison is the thief of joy

Im fighting so hard to go against the norm

I’m trying to find other parents who aren’t in mainstream

I know exposure to mainstream is inevitable but I also want her to be exposed by families who aren’t driven by junk food, screen and materialism in gaining their daily happiness

Mental adjustment by food

 Artifical dopamine

Social media

Fast food

Drugs

Alcohol

Partying

Drugs

Working

In my case, it is definitely alcohol, phone scrolling and  fast food - things like  japanese curry

just provides that mental relief, takes off the edge

alcohol makes me forget things, just loosen up and stop the thinking and go into the 'just-do-it, just-say-it' mode

phone scrolling gives me the stop the thinking too, and takes off some of the edges too, esp when there is something I can laugh to,  just break it up for me, so I don't get too intense

The phone scrolling, I successfuly get on top of that, due to my belief to be there for the kids

Bhawana say recently you don't need Alcohol to give you that feeling

Now I am also eliminating the food bit

Healthy dopamine

Cold shower

Running

Hiking

Exercising

Healthy food

Healthy relationship

Sleep

Music

Gratitude

Meditation

Writing

Laughing

All this time, food is my fix.  That is why for Remi it is so important. Not to keep on feeding her food when things get hard.  I dont want her to associate food as a relief of stress.

There are intense emotion is to slowly co-regulate.

I need to find ways of relief for myself.

Michelle - Dec 2021 to now

Big breakdown - against Emma - Oct 2022   (Remi 14 months old)

Fractured Foot - May 2022 to July 2022  (7 months to 9 months old)

Remi breakdown in baby car seat Strathpine lollipop -  Aug 2022 (10 months old)

Baby Car Seat - Change from rear facing to front facing - Mar 2023  (19 months old)

Stopped breastfeeding - Apr 2023  (20 months old)

Remi start childcare - Feb 2023 (18 months old)  - tried playdates in Dec 2022 (16 mo) - did not work

Gonggong coming often 3-4 days a week - May 2022 until Feb 2023

--------------

The anxiety was around

Remi don't want to be in pram

Remi don't want to be in car  any longer than 5 minutes

-----------

The pressing question was

How to deal with 2 kids?  Remi is a newborn and is still ok, but what happen as she is more aware and fight for my attention?

Aug 2021 to Dec 2022 - was my gruelling think in advance panic 'in-tunnel' experience

I was hoping for a magic wand, but there is no magic wand.

-------------

The ultimate answer was

You can do it and you got it within you

Focusing on how you yourself can be well is the most important thing

YOU HAVE TIME to find the answers, sign up to those likeminded moms and they often have the scripts in how to deal with it

Manage my anxiety, my breathing, my body, listening to my body

----------------

Through the tumble and rumble of being in a tunnel washing machine (like in wet and wild) lots of panic attacks, crying and tears, I have gone from

- being absolutely petrified when with 2 kids

- to 'willing to try' to spend time with 2 kids

---------------

Being absolutely petrified when with 2 kids -  used to count by the minute  when Jack comes home.  I was with Remi  (remi no childcare) and   Alexis was in childcare 5 days a week since Remi was born. Alexis was in daycare  from 8:20am (dropped by Jack) to 5pm (picked up by me) and it used to be very nervewrecking.  Battling the mental exhaustion with Remi (not getting her sleeping or eating right) and myself (alot of unwell, panic feeling) and in that bad cycle.

From the time I broke my foot, Remi won't deal with cars (May 2022 to Sep 2022) was particularly anxious period for me, and a lot of sickness too. I was isolated due to my broken foot, but also trapped as I can't go anywhere. I was in bad cycle with Remi's tiredness and food too. (Remi was 7 months to 13 months old)

My dad, social worker, and child psychologist as well counsellor has been my rescues during this  dark period.

I remember feeling exhausted and panicky all the time.

Coming from 5:15pm to 5:45pm when Jack arrives (30-40 minutes) was hard.

I wanted to do better. I wanted to be less petrified. I just don't know how.

I know by the time Dec 2022 finishes, Alexis will finish by 3pm so I have to learn how to deal with that. By the time both teachers left in Dec 2022, Alexis hates daycare and from mid-Jan 2023 I was willing to have Alexis and Remi home by myself (with Alexis occassionally going to daycare)

The rescue was neighbour. Mainly dominic. His warmth, excitement and welcoming makes Alexis feeling less lost. It was a great introduction to St Flannans too.

Phase adjustments and transitions

  • From breastfeeding to bottles
  • From home to daycare
  • From daycare to school
  • From school to school holiday

How to be mentally strong
Mentally prepared
need a lot of help by people
same goes with work
which i need to have a good think about

1. Stay-at-home path or Working path - narrowing my world, dont want to be like my mom
2. Need to solidify reason to stay at work - so I don't give up at first instance
3. Know that will be a tunnel experience again
4. Counsellor every 3 days?
5. Know my parameter
  • 1 to 2 days a week
  • Work from home option
  • Also has part time mothers
  • Supportive environment

Boss who can draw the line because I cannot draw that line myself
How to create that boundary

Michelle Obama's Mother

My god. I have listened to this chapter of the book 3 times now, finally got a chance to sit down & summarise it for myself.  This chapter about motherhood is SO GOOD.   It resonate so much with me.

have a fairly good idea of what to do to navigate parenting from 0 to 7 year old (in the case of Alexis anyway, I dont know about Remi as she is different) but I remained very confused from 7 year old to adulthood. Unexpectedly, Michelle Obama's mother is my answer.  Her demeanour and how she carries herself, her perspective is gold. The level of detail that Michelle Obama provided was very helpful.

Just what I needed to change my trajectory.

Tying up to the need of 'letting go', this is about fostering not just physical independence but emotional independence, for them to develop their critical skill. And the end game of parenting worries (until when?)

An excerpt says "what we can give to our kids - to give them the opportunities to be heard and seen, the practice they need to make rational decision based on meaningful values and consistency of our gladness that they are there"

 Trajectory

7 year old  going through  adulthood

My mom thinks that we should have our own family live

independent of her

and she felt that she too should have a life independent of us

she likes her freedom

she likes her space

as a rule of thumb, she is hands off

----------------

My fear over having a job and career myself will mess my kid up

Any slightest issue is going to trigger a cascade of doubt and guilt

My old friend, the fearful mind

One tiny thing go wrong and my mother guilt would kick in

I start second guessing every decision I have ever made

Self scrutiny

All stem from the feeding of unrealistic image of female perfection

never could happen, but we keep trying

For mothers the feeling of not enoughness - is acute

The doubt generated by these artifacts can be undermining

I am as prone as this self blasteration as the next person

any sign of conflict and challenge, i would ferociously scan my own mistake

have i been too tough or too indulging

have i been too absent or too present?

--------------

u have somehow not done enough for your kids

or you have done everything wrong and they are now paying the price for your neglicence or poor decision making

many of us feel this intensely

----------------------------------

you can become convinced if you pull back even a little, you failed to do something, you will potentially doom your child

----------------

parental anxiety - michelle's own mom

what she offer is perspective and presence

engaged listened, someone who can banish my fear to the back of the room or reign me in when i am a little 'extra' with my fretting

important to always presume the BEST about children

that it is preferable to let them live up to your hope

than live down to your worries

grant trust than making them earn it

on the spot reality check

whatever that was happening is not a failure but developmentally appropriate and within the realm of expectation and I have done the same those dumb thing  when i was young

I find that reassuring

those girls are all right

they are just trying to learn life

i too, was alright

i too, can calm down and trust my own judgment

1a. teach your kids to eat by themselves

1b. teach your kids how to wake up

how many minutes to get you out to school

tool or challenge how to use it effectively become hers to figure out

mother not interested to whine

making it clear that her life is largely her own

2. it isn't about you

making parents out of business

deliberate undertaking on my part - learn to get our own feet not just physically but also emotionally

singular goal - to render herself obselete

day to day practical tasks - her plan is to make herself not needed

i am not raising babies, i am raising adults

whats the minimum i can do right now for them

self sufficiency matters above all else

we are operating on limited budget

time, money, food - need to be economical in all front

taught to appreciate what is given to us

teaching us to rely on ourselves to think clearly what we needed is what our parents can convey

our parents cant give us shortcut, so parents give us skill

if our kids are to travel further than we have then they would need big engine, not to mention the ability to do our own repair

our hands get in the way of their hands

she will show us how to do it, and quickly step aside

with the aid of step stool, dry the dishes

made our own bed

do our  own laundry

daily practice of self reliance and problem solving

step by step of overcoming doubt and fear

until there is less overall to doubt and less to fear

easier to explore and discover

from one solid habit, can build more

first taste of power

mistake with chores  homework  friends  relationships

if u make a big deal, they will stop trying

none of it is tied to her own self worth or ego or done for bragging rights

it is not about her at all

she is busy trying to wash her hands off us after all

her mood did not rise or fall on our victories

her happiness is not dictated by whether we come home with A on our report card, whether Craig scored a lot in basketball games

when good things happened she was happy for us

when bad things happened she help us process it before getting back to her own chores and challenges

the important thing

she loves us regardless we succeeded or failed

she lit up with gladness everytime we walked through the door

my mother remain quietly watchful over what was happening in our life

she did not immediately offer to fight our battles

a lot of what we are learning was social developing skill to understand who do we want to surround ourselves with, and on whose voice we allow into our head and why

when she could, she found time to volunteer in our classroom at school

which gives her useful window so she can recognise when we truly needed help, vs when we need to just learning life

then she will sincerely ask 'do you need me to go in there for you?'

she was pushing me to continue reasoning out the situation in my head

how bad was it actually

what were the solutions

what could i do

this is how in the end, i usually knew i could trust my own answer, which was - i think i can handle it

mom help me to puzzle out my own feelings and strategies for  dealings with them in part by giving them room and taking care not to smother them with her own feelings and her own opinions

if i get overly sulky about something i will tell her to do one of her chores not as punishment exactly but as mean to rightsizing the problem - get up and clean that bathroom she'd say it will put your mind on things other than urself !!

inside our own home, she created a kind of emotional sandbox where we can safely rehearse our feelings and sort through our responses to whatever that is going on to our young life

she listen as we work through our problems out loud, whether it was a math question or a playground issue, her advice when she gave it, tend to be the hard boiled practical variety most often is a reminder to keep perspective and to think backward to the end result we are hoping for to always stay focused on that

once i was in high school not happy in dealing with a maths teacher that struck me as arrogant. my mom heard my complain nodded understandingly and shrugged you dont have to like your teacher and she doesnt have to like you, but she has the maths in her head that you needed in your head, so perhaps you should just go to school and get the maths

you can come home to be liked, we will always like you here

3. know what is truly precious

not material, our body and soul are precious

our parents saw us each as different and treat us that way

they gear their parenting towards fostering our own indivdual strength to drawing out what was best in us, rather than trying to fit us in some pre-made ordained mould

respectful of our elders and abide some general rules, but we also spoke our mind, always voice your thought

never feel they have to tip toe in their own home

establish basic rules and governing principles

making bed as soon as they are old enough to make their own bed

------

how to proceed with our children

one that wants more guard rail from her parents, one that want fewer

one that respond first to my emotion, and one would take my word at face value

each kid has their own temperament, sensitivites, her own needs, strengths and set of boundaries

and way of interpreting the world around her

we trust her to do her own thing

my moms timeless reminder

just calm down & trust my judgment

gradually learn to read our kids for cues, adapting what each were showing us, trying to interpret their development to what we understood as their own idnvidual gifts and needs

parenting - fly fishing - where you stand for hours  eyeing for fish, practice your best manouver  by patience and perspective and precision - in the end, the child you have will grow into a person they are meant to be

they will learn life their own way

you will control some but not all in the way that it goes for them

you cant remove unhappiness from their life

u cant remove struggle

what we can give to our kids - opportunities to be heard and seen, the practice they need to make rational decision based on meaningful values and consistency of our gladness that they are there

5. come home, we will always like you here

i got to bathe in gladness as a child, which gives me a distinct advantage grew as a person

knowing what gladness felt like, i can look for more of it

seek friends and relationships and ultimately a partner who can bring more light into my world, which i then try to pour into the lives of my own children

the practice i have had in finding the light inside other people - most valuable tool to overcome uncertainty and dealing in hard times

michelle needed her gladness

i am nothing but a grown up child myself, at the end of long day, feeling worn out and a little needy looking for solace and acceptance and a little snack

mother wise way build all of us

she lit up for us everydya so we can light up for others

she made us feel white house less like a museum and more like a home

Its a wrap for Term 2 l

Its a wrap for term 2!

Remi's childcare establishing

Alexis's mental well being

Alexis's new friends start to be developed

Picked up a weekly routine for myself

Major backlog has been caught up - house, files - although still have some backlog to clear - refer to email

Consolidated food routine

Started backyard

Started my own weight loss plan

Done some work on my energy / breathing

Very beginning of career picturing

New in Term 3!

Carry on weekly routine on food

Accelerate on backyard

Serious on my weight loss plan

GOAL:

- Complete backyard

- Platter food in the afternoon

- Lose weight

Deciphering me as moms

There are certain points about ME that does not really qualify me as a 'normal' moms

  • Require sleep in
  • Don't operate in 24 hours time, which is very bad for kids!
    • Brain spinning, brain take a break (get a very quick food with the most minimal thought,  like bread / leftover / 3-min noodle / egg in microwave, eat), brain spins again, brain take a break very minimum (quick run to toilet), brain spins again
    • Body is completely not acknowledged
    • Brain spin like crazy then body forces a shut down, brain forces to relax, then body take over and have very good sleep (morning, in train, 6pm after finish work). So my cycle is probably extend between 36 hours to 96 hours time.
    • Brain travels very rapidly, gigantic tentacle and vastly intensive, unable to achieve brilliance without this
  • Grow up never really (at least in Australia)
    • Never really eat properly
    • All computers, all brain work, very little hands work
    • Addicted to screen, phone alert literally every waking second
    • Computers / screens - multiple tabs, multiple tasks running at same time
    • Eating whilst doing computer / watching / not much proper eating in dining table
    • Not much preparing food or even giving thoughts into it
    • Not much pooping or even giving thoughts into it
    • Sleep only if forced by body
The new me, require a big change in reprogramming my life, my body, which is doable... but my brain is the hard one.  I cannot achieve briliance without that gigantic cobweb of thoughts

I can aim less.

I can document my thoughts step by step & really STOP-ALL and pause, until the next time Remi goes childcare.

End of blog.

Blossom of Alexis is an inspiration for Remi

Alexis, the beautiful person of who she is today, is no accident.

I believe I have nurtured a lot to have her brain development to grow very well.

I am determined to put the same amount of effort for Remi.

I must admit it is MUCH harder when you have to juggle between the two kids.

I tell myself. Three more years for Remi to reach 4.5, for her to reach to a reasonable person.

By then I will be 42 years old, good lord.

I want to put that much effort. But at the same time, I want to know I am doing well in life.

I also want to do my own stuff sometimes.

Is life suppose to be this 'full', this 'suffocating' sometimes?

My life has always been full, even before kids.

But I guess now, it need to be much more deliberate. More cut throat.

And more purposeful.

Alexis's food - seeking professional is my priority. Documenting that thoughts.

Remi - just spending quality time with her, growing together with her.

Admittedly, after hours, I do need other people to keep Alexis 'engaged'.

Remi can grow in terms of playdough creations.

Alexis can grow in terms of science experiments, fabric making, piano, etc.

I am sure both kids will continue to be busy/

And I want to continue to support them.

* * *

Do not waste the negative energy on people who is not worth your energy

I look forward the day where I stopped breastfeeding, more confident in spending my time with Remi, feed her well, feed both kids well.

I look forward to the day where Remi is front facing. That way we can travel to more places.

I am happy I got a friend - Renee, who is so similar to me.

I can only try, and keep trying.

* * *

I am proud that I give my kids so much kindness, so much autonomy.

So much teaching.  I am protecting their energy.

Everyday.

I want to look after myself a little bit better.

24 January - awake at 2am

Physically I am fulfilled

Feelings I am fulfilled

Perspective wise I am deprived

- meaning I felt like I am stuck in a hamster's wheel

Hence the terrible irritation when Remi won't leave me alone at the wee hours at 1am

Hence the urge to write a blog

Be kind to myself, they say

It is pandemic, where your potentials are capped

I am definitely seeing more things

- build a deeper connection with Remi

- project list with Alexis - growth mindset, disciplining, better language, better partnership with Jack

- finalise my resume for ATO

I am still struggling to connect with my husband re all of the above topics

Things to talk about to my husband:

- iMessenger catch-ups

Alexis - getting her to eat that first bite of cashew and jam bread

At this age, life is still simple, I can help decipher & assist her with it

Alexis is super earnest.

- Not enough sleep, only slept 10pm to 6am
- Wake up at 6am realising I am not there
- She cries and when I ran to her  she calms down and lie down again, and quickly she feels happy after I fill her cup
- We are pretty happy together
- Daddy comes
- Joke about the bo bei song, how alexis likes this 'gay' song. Alexis laughs and proud.
- I was telling daddy re the bo bei song,  daddy jokes as to he does NOT want to hear it because its gay
- Alexis takes offense because she really thought daddy rejects her
- I was calming her down telling her that daddy is only joking
- Daddy quickly changed his tone and say he wants to hear it
- Alexis calms down
- Then we hear garbage truck noise
- Alexis shouts (garbage truck!)
- Daddy and I quickly realised that it is only 6am so the garbage truck just passing, not actually disposing
- Daddy quickly realised he has not put out the bin, so he was about to leave!
- Alexis cried because daddy is leaving without taking her (she can't run as fast as daddy)
- I quickly explained and daddy quickly realised that alexis misunderstood, thinking daddy is leaving to garbage truck without her
- Daddy quickly realised and explained its just that he almost forgot putting the bin out but alexis won't accept it and still cry, so daddy took her outside with him
- After she calms down and we went back into the house, I explain that its only 6am, so not 7am yet, garbage truck only passing
- Alexis is ok but since then she is not the same. She appears more sensitive.
- She said she wants to eat- i realised that she must be hungry!
- She then realised her dolly panda is missing
- I told her its under the blanket
- She got upset because she cannot see it
- I pulled blanket and panda dolly appeared
- Alexis pleasantly surprised and her mood lightened up
- Alexis feels better and she starts rolling around on bed
- I said eat
- She continue rolling and gives me the cheeky smile
- I made the call to push her into eating as I know she hasn't eaten since 5:30pm
- I wanted daddy to do it so I can document all of these
- Daddy normally can do breakfast, I thought
- Daddy carried her but Alexis got angry even how he does not know where to put her stroller and she got angry (she expect a mind reader)
- Thats when i realised that when ALexis is in the sensitive hangry mode, I, rather than daddy, tand a better chance not to 'aggravate' her as I am more micro and more attuned and more fast.
- She is hangry because last time she had dinner was 5:30pm.  At this point, she is super sensitive.
- When she is in sensitive mode, a lot of verbal assurances are necessary to maintain her ease
- So I took over in managing her until she takes her first bite (which is still a long time away)
- I stepped up and said let me do breakfast and 'break off' alexis's dissatisfaction with daddy
- Alexis attention turns to me and I give her that reassurance 'i got you' look
- she felt a little bit calmer but still pretty worked up
- I asked her with a confident tone - 'can i put the bread in the toaster for you'? ..'or do you want to do it?' she was hangry and weak, so she indicated that i can do it
- Then at that point  i should continue with my verbal reassurance, eg. "ok now that the bread is in the toaster, it won't be long until it pops back out, let me get you cashew and jam to prepare first"
- I didn't, my default mode is pretty quiet and just productive
- She couldn't wait just break down again crying
- I realised that she needed more of me, so I went to her stroke her back, etc, just be there whilst she is trying to process her emotions
- Then she muttered 'garbage truck' - as in daddy left to see garbage truck without me
- So clearly she has unresolved emotions there, she does not understand why daddy left her
- Then I went on to explain that she misunderstand, her daddy wanted to leave to put the bin out, because garbage truck not come yet
- but this logic was hard for her to understand, she appears a bit better but still struggling
- Daddy clued up and went to her and apologised for making her feel sad. It appears to be alot more effective than my bunch of explanations.
- Alexis appeared so much better with daddy trying to comfort her and him explaining just hold more weight than mine, as he is the subject matter
- Alexis was shaken because she questions  the 'trust relationship' between daddy and her, but her dad's reassurance put her back on track
- She finally able to pick up her knife and go back to the bread making business
- she was still shaken and not as effective
- I just wanted her to take that first bite, as she is hungry, angry, sad, and now exhausted
- I took back the management of alexis back from daddy
- The bread is done in toaster and i took out some plate
- normally we do two plates, one orange and one green
- but i could not see the green so i give her an orange plate and a pink plate
- she does not want the pink plate
- i said it does not matter baby
- she got worked up
- then i realised i dont want to pick fight at this point, i just wanted her to take that first bite
- i found the green plate and swap it with the pink, she is ok again
- then - I guided her through her navigating her knife to the cashew
- she does not want to be guided, she handed me the other knife to the strawberry jam
- she put the cashew bottle right next to the bread
- she got worked up when i don't put strawberry jam right next to the other bread
- she expected me to copy her, or for us to synchronise
- so i realised and i followed her every T
- i did it too quick and i put the strawberry jam on one bread
- seeing her struggling so much, i folded the bread with the jam and offered her to take her first bite
- she got worked up because thats not how you do it - normally we got the two bread done with cashew and jam, fold then eat - so not like this
- i asked her if she wants strawberry jam put on the other bread
- she said no, shes doing cashew, she said put the strawberry jam away
- (i knew she would want strawberry jam on that other bread too)
- i put the strawberry jam and its knife to the sink
- she got worked up as she wants me to put strawberry jam into the fridge (i.e. completely finished with the jam)
- i did not argue with her and put it in the fridge
- then i caught her licking the cashew knife
- i said 'well i have to pack that cashew away' as it is our rule not double dip, once you lick the knife that means that's it, you cannot put that same knife to the cashew bottle, its over
- she argued to say there is the other knife (that i use for strawberry jam)
- well she is not wrong, so i reopened the cashew bottle and offer it to her
- she took a bit more cashew using the other knife
- then i put the cashew away
- then she got worked up because she wants to put strawberry jam into that same bread (she expected me to know this)
- so i went to fridge and got it back for her
- she applied that strawberry jam - i tried to fasten the process so she does not stay hungry for too long as un-offensively as i can
- she finally done and she folded both bread
- the entire time i keep it as easy going, as supportive, as 'its not a big deal' atmosphere
- the moment she is being productive, i put on radio music to lift her mood
- so she finally took that first bite
- HALLELUJAH
- then i can leave her with her daddy eating breakfast and do my own stuff (typing this blog entry)
- 2 mins later she get a bit insecure and is looking for me again
- then i reappeared in a jokey way - made her smile
- repeat this process twice
- then she is ok after finished eating she is back in good mood and in her normal reasonable self

Body works & revelation

  • These days I am doing so much work over my body. The scissors / gym incident (6th Sept) has prompted me to change course & focus on this subject before jumping into prgenancy. Wise move.
  • The chiro / osteo visit has opened my eyes. I wonder why I did not go there sooner. I think I had a wrong assumption and nobody highlighted it to me. Dr Caroline is too nice to push her views on me. But in saying that, I am glad I found out about it now. Her not pressing to tell me made me feel like the conventional method does not work and I had to resort to naturopathy / functional medicine area, which led me to a tremendous success of 16kg loss. Before I get pregnant. Ideally I want to get into optimal physical state before going to pregnancy, so I have a benchmark to go back to.
  • The chiropractor Dr Dylan is very smart and seem to have a lot of experience with Spondyloarthritis - I really want to ask him more & dig more from him. I quite like him.
  • The osteo Dr Andy is a quiet, controlled, reserved man. But he is deep too. I don't know, I think what he does is gentle too. So I quite like him too.

My conclusion

Milestone Journal - No more dummy!

Weaning dummy at 35 months

I basically followed exactly from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz8f0JoxjFo

Around this time, Alexis definitely needed it to sleep. But since the COVID-19 lockdown, Alexis has increased dependencies on dummy. Whenever she is not happy she always resort to dummy. I am concerned as I want her to settle her emotions with words / other actions  apart from just dummy. Its too convenient and is not healthy for her.

Its the long EKKA weekend (Fri to Sun) and we picked up guinea pigs from childcare on Thursday afternoon (Anna and Elsa)

What happened

1a. Sat morning - Dummy fairy arrive at my computer room on the bed, on top of a white box. Complete with the messages. Dummy put bag

1b. We headed straight to Mr Toys World. Alexis picked up a dolly pram for $60 (four times more expensive than her actual stroller!). The shop assistant went along with it.  After that we went to Aspley Hypermarket, I desperately wanted her to go home as I know she is already very tired (the night before she slept 11pm and wake up 6am, so .. not enough).

1c. Coming back,   it is very clear for Alexis that there is no more dummy.  She does not ask for it.  She is still very excited (and tired at the same time) and fluff around until 4pm - the time when fortunately we are going to Anna/Lisa's house with the guinea pigs Anna and Elsa.

1d. Hangout until 7:30pm, where she slept in Papa's ute without fight for dummy (too tired).

2. Sunday - napped 20 mins in the car, but apart from that she is in pretty OK mood throughout the day. It is very clear that Alexis knows the dummy is nowhere around to be asked. We are very impressed at her understanding towards this.

3. Monday - During the day, Alexis had 1 hour nap (patted to sleep by Miss Maria). She did not ask for dummy. In the evening, needed to be carried around to see house numbers.

4. Tuesday - During the day, Alexis had 1 hour nap (patted to sleep by Miss Maria?). She did not ask for dummy. In the evening, needed to be carried around to see house numbers. Woke up at 12 midnight because not happy Im not next to her, then again at 3am because of hungry. This is the time where she asked for dummy and I had to remind her that its gone. She is really upset and really struggle to get back to sleep without it. At 12 midnight daddy carried her around the neighbourhood to resettle her back to sleep and at 3am, I had to read book at 4am-4:30am to put her to sleep. She was extremely agitated at 3am still insisting to apply cashew & strawberry jam on the bread herself, put bread on toaster herself, whilst Jack and I are both extremely sleepy.

Alexis's reaction

Overall it was a successful experience.

Alexis is not sure about the whole mystical feeling of dummy fairy - she is not comfortable. I think she is fairly realist. And if things are beyond her control then she does not like it.

She told us that she does not want dummy fairy to come back. I told her that dummy fairy will not come back. For 3 days she asked us to be carried through the hallway because she is scared. We had to reassure her multiple times.

She understands that no more dummy because she is growing up (turning 3 years old) and is a big girl. She does not ask why too much and seem accepted the fact that there is no more dummy. She does not deny the reality which is a great thing.

She only read the book "bye bye binky" once by daddy and she does not want to have anything to do with it. I think she is spooked out by the whole thing.

Though with the dolly's pram, she loves it so much and she knows its a present from the dummy fairy. Not spooked at all.

She declares to people who listen - that dummy fairy came to my house! pop out from the box.  take my dummy away. gone to fairyland, which is behind the clouds, far away! I think its good that we talked about this over and over, as she tells the story, she grows to accept it.

There are moments (Sunday, Tuesday) where she really misses her dummy (or struggle to get back to sleep not having it), but when we reminded her, she cried / screamed unhappily but is not pursuing it further.

Interesting comments made by her

- Sat arvo - that dummy fairy is going to give her new dummies from supermarket

- Wed arvo - the children visited the childcare farm, including the guinea pigs. Alexis is a bit possessive saying those guinea pigs are hers! I said its not really, its for sharing with everyone. Alexis said somewhere along the line, (guinea pigs) are what she gets, because of the whole dummy fairy ordeal. Which is not wrong, because that was my intention.
